Hood To Coast Relay On the Way!
GOVERNMENT CAMP, Ore. — The 40th running of the Hood to Coast Relay, the largest running and walking relay race in the world, got underway early this morning — some started at 2:30 a.m.! — at Timberline Lodge on Mount Hood. The teams of runners who started out at Timberline will make the 198-mile trek to Seaside, where the relay finishes Saturday.
More teams will join the relay in Portland later Friday, as part of the Portland to Coast Relay, which is for teams that prefer to walk the 128-mile route from Portland to Seaside.
Hood to Coast draws participants from all over the world – its website says people from more than 40 countries and all 50 states compete each year. The first Hood to Coast took place Aug. 7, 1982 with eight teams competing. This year’s race has 1,000 running teams and more than 400 walking teams. — MORE INFO: https://hoodtocoast.com/
Deadline Today for Child Care Businesses To Apply for Grants in Clatsop County
The Clatsop Child Care Retention and Expansion Grants Program is ready to provide $275,000 to Clatsop County child care providers. This new child care grant program is focused on stabilization, coordination and financial support of current and new child care providers in Clatsop County.
A diverse group of people from Clatsop County, with the support of NW Child Care Resource & Referral and NW Early Learning Hub, have worked to create a plan to address the child care needs of our county. Thanks to initial contributions from Clatsop County Board of Commissioners, Providence Seaside and Columbia Memorial hospitals there is a new opportunity to help child care providers offer good wages, affordable and consistent child care, professional growth and business planning without increasing costs to parents.
Here is a link that provides an explanation of the grant, the application and other helpful information. https://nworegon.org/childcare-grants-program-in-clatsop-county
The grant is open to those who currently or desire to provide care to children between the ages of 6 weeks to 12 years of age. In-home and center based child care providers are encouraged to apply. Responses to questions and help in completing applications will be provided by the grant program manager ( ClatsopChildCareGrants@gmail.com ) and by NW Child Care Resource and Referral ( nwregionalccrr@nwresd.k12.or.us ). Information is available in English and Spanish. Grant applications are due by August 26 at 5PM.

As of 8/9/2022, there are now 51women missing between Medford and Eugene. Sadly Kendra Hanks has been found murdered, though that takes her off the list. We send thoughts and prayers to her family as well as the families of all missing people in our area.
51 women missing in just less than 3 1/2 months. That averages out to 15 missing per month. Something needs to be done.
This is just a small compilation of missing women and their pictures in the area. There are of course women missing all over Oregon and men and children missing too. We don’t mean to dismiss that, however, there is an inordinate amount of women who go missing each week and there could possibly be a connection with an anomaly or two here and there. Sadly most of them never get any attention. Family and friends must keep any information going and lead investigations so that they aren’t just forgotten.
